The Kenya Association of Travel Agents (KATA) teamed up with Google Kenya to conduct the first two-day sessions of a series of training for her members on digital skills.
This training took place last week at the Amadeus East Africa training room in Nairobi.
In Kenya, 86% of the population are internet users according to key digital statistical indicators shared by google as at January 2018 while globally there is a 56% penetration of internet users.
KATA’s aim of the partnership is to have a membership that is ready for the travel of tomorrow which is for sure a digital one. While officially opening the digital skills training, KATA CEO Nicanor Sabula said, “There is a lot of competition with OTAs; they are not eating our lunch, we are just late to the table.”
The training was a follow up to a commitment made by Google Kenya at the 2018 KATA Convention to offer free training to KATA members in order to improve their digital skills.
KATA members were given detailed highlights on digital marketing channels to help them in their online business growth. The digital marketing channels include; Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Search Engine Marketing (SEM), Social Media Marketing (SMM), Display marketing, Content Marketing and Email Marketing.
Solutions to upscale their business and digital best practices to be steps ahead of the digital world were part of the lessons that members reaped from the training.
After each session members could identify the relevance and the role of various channels for their business and customers.
It is now generally accepted that digital marketing is the cog that provides competitive advantage to many businesses in an increasingly digital world.
This training scheme is in line with KATA’s strategic plan of continuously building members’ professional capacity in order to compete in a changing business environment.Back to news articles
