Following the announcement between His Excellency, President Uhuru Kenyatta and President Donald Trump, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) has now achieved Last Point of Departure status.
The attainment of the LPD will allow JKIA to facilitate direct flights between USA and Kenya. Kenya Airways is set to start direct flights between New York and Nairobi with the fully booked first flight scheduled for 28th October, 2018.
“This is a major achievement for Kenya as JKIA becomes one of the elite African airports to be certified as a last point of departure to the United States. JKIA is now poised to become the premier hub in Africa.” said KAA Managing Director, Jonny Andersen.
Kenya Association of Travel Agents (KATA) applauds the national carrier Kenya Airways for the NBO-NYC direct flight confirmation after the announcement of JKIA achieving the Last Point of Departure (LPD) status.
In an interview with the Weekly Travel News Nicanor Sabula, CEO of KATA says “This is a great milestone for the travel industry and Kenya as a country to get the LPD clearance as it will allow for sustainable and steady growth of the air travel business which is one of the top three contributors to the country’s GDP.”
Jomo Kenyatta International Airport’s (JKIA) has also been ranked as the best Airport in Africa and 38th globally by the Air help worldwide ranking group in the 2018 AirHelp Annual Score ratings of the world’s best airlines and airports.Back to news articles
