Travel and Tourism Industry stakeholders led by Kenya Tourism Federation (KTF) recently hosted a cocktail event to welcome the relatively new leadership at the Ministry of Tourism and wildlife.
Speaking at the cocktail event, Hon. Najib Balala thanked the industry for hosting the event and for the continuous support from the players including Kenya Tourism Federation (KTF), Kenya Association of Tour Operators (KATO), Kenya Association of Travel Agents (KATA), Kenya Association of Hotel Keepers (KAHC), Pubs, Entertainment and Restaurants Association of Kenya (PERAK), SKAL, Ecotourism Kenya, Kenya Tourism Board and Kenya Wildlife service. “This is really a great honour and privilege to be here once again” he added.
The newly appointed Permanent Secretary for Wildlife Dr. Margaret Mwakima was recognized and welcomed at the event. Dr. Mwakima who has been in the industry for a long time, is a former board member of Ecotourism Kenya, Vice Chair of the Kenya Wildlife Service Board. “I am actually where I belong and very grateful for all the support that you have continuously given us as a ministry. For us is to set policies and to provide necessary oversight, coordination and regulations that you need so that you can be able to drive and contribute to the GDP” she added.
On his part Permanent Secretary for Tourism Mr. Joe Okudo thanked the tourisms stakeholders for the warm reception and promised to continue working closely with the industry just like CS. Balala, Mr. Okudo was transferred to the Tourism docket from the Ministry of Sports and Culture where he held a similar position.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Fred Odek Vice Chairman of the Kenya Tourism Federation (KTF) mentioned that Social media is very powerful and can be a great platform to be on the spotlight. He advised the industry to focus on marketing the country’s popular destinations all year round rather than during high seasons only.
Kenya Association of Travel Agents (KATA) CEO Mr. Nicanor Sabula, thanked the Cabinet Secretary Hon. Balala for being available and for the good work he was doing for the industry, he welcomed the two PS’s. Dr. Mwakima and Mr. Okudo to the industry.Back to news articles
