South African Airways (SAA) last week hosted its annual Travel Agents Awards, where it recognised and awarded their top selling agents. Once again KATA members scooped most of the awards.
The prestigious awards are aimed at recognising travel agents in Kenya who have contributed towards SAA success in the year. This year’s top three agents who are also members of KATA were Carlson Wagonlit Travel in the third place, HRG Kenya in the second place and BCD Kenya, in the first place.
Over 120 IATA and non-IATA travel agents joined in the celebration themed ‘Forging partnerships for a sustainable future’. The keynote speaker, Ms. Vuyisa Onabulu, South Africa High Commission, Second Secretary Political emphasized on the need partnership between Kenya and South Africa in growing the respective tourism industries. “Affordability and ease of movement of tourists are among the important issues that need to be addressed if the sector and industry has to grow. “We are therefore excited with the signing of the Single African Air Transport Market which is intended to drive down airfares by allowing airlines of different countries to freely access each other’s airports’. In the spirit of growing together South Africa and Kenya are among the 23 countries that signed the agreement. We foresee this as a huge boost to the industry by increasing the number of tourists to our respective countries.”
Speaking at the event, SAA’s Regional Manager, East Africa & Middle East Mr. Austin Nyawara, applauded travel agents for the support they had extended to SAA during the transition period it went through last year. ” SAA has been going through various changes in management and consolidation of various offices but now we have a new CEO and the company is now focused on growth and progress."
The award ceremony, recognized top performing travel agents towards revenue contribution for the financial year 2016-2017.
