Pomp and color marked this year’s Turkish Airlines Annual Travel Agents Appreciation dinner with KATA members scooping all top awards on offer.
The event was held at the Panafric Hotel and attended by the new Turkish Ambassador to Kenya H. E Ahmet Cemil Miroglu, General Manager Mustafa Ozkahraman, KATA CEO Nicanor Sabula, representatives of Kenya travel agents among other invited guests.
Speaking at the event, H.E Miroglu underscored the importance of Turkish Airlines in facilitating trade between Kenya and Turkey and thanked travel agents for supporting the Airline. On his part, Mr. Mustafa Ozkahraman announced that despite the difficulties businesses faced in Kenya last year, the local market had performed well contributing to the overall good performance the airline recorded during the year. “For the first time in the record of the Turkish Airlines, we reached the highest occupancy rate of 80% in 2017," he said.
Addressing the gathering, KATA CEO lauded Turkish Airlines for the support they had extended to the travel trade Associations both locally and internationally. “Turkish Airlines has demonstrated its commitment to the travel industry both in word and deed. They are a true partner and we see this in the various forums we interact," he said. “Travel Agencies like many businesses in Kenya are optimistic of a good year in business after a horrible 2017. The handshake between our two opposing political leaders just added fire into this optimism”, he added.
During the award ceremony, Euro Travel Africa emerged as the top agent in terms of total sales followed by BCD Travel and Tusmo Travel Tours and Cargo Limited respectively. Charleston Travel scooped the outstanding beyond sales category, while Kenfam International Ltd took home the highest group sales award. Tusmo Travel Tours and Cargo Limited was recognized for recording the highest increase in sales at 400% as BCD Travel took to the podium for the second time to receive the award for the most business class sales.Back to news articles
