The Kenya Association of Travel Agents (KATA) is a business membership organization that represents the interests of Travel Agents and Travel Industry stakeholders in Kenya. KATA seeks to intermediate, identify opportunities that will grow members businesses and promote travel.
Membership of KATA is entirely voluntary and extends to Kenyan Travel Agents, IATA approved training colleges and Industry Partners who are suppliers of travel related products. Currently the Membership represents 80% of IATA accredited agents including major travel brands.
The Kenya Association of Travel Agents has represented the interests of Kenyan travel agents since 1979 when its forerunner, the East African Society of Travel Agents, which had been in existence for 22 years was disbanded due to the collapse of the East African Community.
KATA works to enhance and improve the Travel Industry business climate in Kenya by promoting the services of her members to the general public, protecting their rights and assisting them to optimize their businesses.
All KATA members are bound by KATA’s constitution and Code of ethical & professional Standards. While KATA promotes free trade without violating rules and regulations, we have entrenched a Constitution and Code of ethical & professional Standards that self-regulates thus providing the consumer with protection and peace of mind. When dealing with a KATA member therefore, you are assured of professional service as our members put their integrity on the line by belonging to an organization that prescribes to a strict Code of Conduct.
The Association is a member of the Universal Federation of Travel Agents' Association (UFTAA) and the Federation of Eastern and Southern African Travel Agents (FESATA) and works closely with the Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Tourism and related Government Parastatals. KATA also plays an important role in the private sector bodies such as the Kenya Tourism Federation (KTF) and The Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA).
