KATA participated in the just concluded 7th Edition of the Magical Kenya Travel Expo (MKTE) held from 3 – 5 October, 2017.
Apart from being one of the industry partners supporting the Kenya Tourism Board for the event, KATA participated as an exhibitor under the umbrella of the Kenya Tourism Federation. MKTE has grown since inception in 2010 to become the biggest travel trade expo in East Africa.
The Expo was officially opened by the Cabinet Secretary for Tourism Hon. Najib Balala and attended by an estimated 180 exhibitors, 132 hosted buyers and visitors from across Africa and other key source markets.
While addressing participants, Hon. Balala outlined the 4 pillars of the National Tourism Blue Print 2030 that would support the development and growth of tourism in Kenya. These include; Marketing Strategy, Product Strategy, Investment Strategy and Infrastructure Strategy. He further took the opportunity to assure tour operators and travel agents in overseas markets that Kenya was safe for holidays despite the ongoing political situation. “Tourists coming to Kenya for holidays are enjoying their leisure and safaris as the political situation does not affect popular beach resorts at the Kenya coast, Nairobi and the national parks across the country.”
A record 1,500 pre-scheduled Business to Business (B2B) meetings between Kenyan tourism trade and travel agents from key source markets were held during the expo. Participants were drawn from Australia, Canada, China, the Czech Republic, Ethiopia, France, Germany, Ghana, India, Italy, Malaysia, Nigeria, Nordic, Poland, Russia, Rwanda, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, Tanzania, Uganda, Britain and the United States among other countries.
Apart from exhibitions, the Expo had learning seminars for the travel trade that addressed various issues among them Digital marketing, Online Travel Bookings, New opportunities, Power of positive opinion and many more.
The participation at MKTE is part of KATA’s new strategy to represent its members in all local and international spaces to create awareness of the association, network with major stakeholders and interact with potential KATA members and partners.Back to posts articles
